Having decided to rid myself of harmful unnecessary products last year I was looking for alternatives before I delved into the realm of homemade beauty products. I turned to burts bees because it seemed like my best option (and I got it discounted from my previous employment) but after learning that clorox owns them I was kind of frightened regardless if people think their partnership could possibly make clorox a greener company…we’ll see about that.
While preparing to make the switch completely to non-toxic, preservative free products Mallory and I had an extreme session of kitchen witchin’ where we made balms, lip stain, dry shampoo, coal liner and even a clay cleanser. After I used up my last bit of burts bees face wash as to not be wasteful I was ready to try out my new cleanser. I have to say, I absolutely love it. My face is soft and I have no new break outs. It’s satisfying knowing what is going down the drain came from the earth and is returning to it.
The cleanser consists of kaolin clay, ground oats, powdered lavender and rosebuds, a few drops of floral essential oils then blend. Mix a teaspoon of the grains with a little bit of water or aloe juice other notable liquids to try are coconut or almond milk, honey, lemon juice until you reach a consistency you like. So simple, just a handful of ingredients that are completely safe. It may seem like a lot of work to someone else but this is honestly very enjoyable to us to explore natural beauty. After all these methods have existed far longer than commercial products and don’t poison your body. I’m trying to focus on these tasks in order to stay positive throughout my journey into self-acceptance.
